definitely #8.
I wouldn’t pick it up if it was the other covers – the picture doesn’t appeal to me/is off-putting. ;-]
{or maybe Red cover#1 – but done in black, like #8}

My vote is for White cover #3.

#1 is too 1980’s
#2 has too much red
#3 THE BEST
#4 too many quotes (too busy)
#5 too stylized, busy & difficult to read title from across the room (important why selling in a brick and mortar store)
#6 Even busier & too much black + still hard to read
#7 too plain-except for word “photo” this could be a book of cheap poetry.
#8 better than 7 but nowhere near as good as #3.

Definitely #1 – arresting, simple, direct. Very elegant. You need the camera to make the transition from traditional to existential.

I like #8 best. The design isn’t too busy nor difficult to read.
