For straight out in-depth... (and I mean in-depth) Canon body and glass reviews this site has never led me astray. I would recommend you add it to any list of resources for Canon shooters. I will say that the "forums" section has some maturing to do... but the reviews are deep, independent and outstanding.

Syl,

Thank you for sharing this collection with your readers. Looking at these sites, definitely video is the topic of the day. I have long preferred stills but now I own a 5D mark II and through this technology what was a different world now merged with photography and the production of creative and high quality videos took on a new meaning. Looking forward to hearing more of your ideas on film making too.

We post sometimes at some of the above forums and sites, because we understand the HUGE potential that Canon 5D Mark II (and later 7D & 1D Mark IV) has as a filmmaking tool (along the great stills capabilities), thus the enormous value of fixing/adding improvements to it (all possible via Firmware Update).

We would like to share the following comment that a member of the Cinematographer's Community who is also a reader and member of some of those forums has posted when he commented Philip's article "The tale of Lucasfilm, Skywalker Ranch".

That member said:

“I hope things like this (referring to Philip's experience with LucasFilm staff and his blog post) help Canon Japan to understand what we mean when we say there are Professionals and even Studios interested on this camera for Serious FILMMAKING purposes…

That old argument of “this is a still camera ‘with video’ ” is very ridiculous and contradictory to Canon’s own interests when you see and compare the sales and success it had on the video/filmmaking community.

I clearly see that a New Firmware some months ahead with ADDITIONAL FILMMAKING FEATURES would be another BIG bang to keep this camera selling even more…

And that IS A GREAT BUSINESS indeed (I don't remember a camera keeping its original sales price over 1 year old with so big demand)

I hope Canon Japan’s executives see that too.”

Along this past year we have been encouraging people to politely request improvements to Canon for this great camera. Most of them has been already proven possible (Magic Lantern Project)...

- This is a reference list of Features being requested to Canon:

http://5dmark2.wordpress.com/2009/09/28/5d-mark-ii-features-request/

And yes, people requesting CAN make a difference (check story, Info & Testimonials), especially because those improvements will reflect as a big deal for Canon too (more sales on already designed and in-production cameras). It's very clear and even already proven...

Thanks to everyone supporting these campaigns. They will benefit ALL Canon users.

And thanks to Canon for "listen to customers" and improving these great cameras.
